Cape Town is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, a striking city surrounded by both ocean and mountains. With picturesque views and a world-class foodie culture, there are some incredible places to enjoy the perfect anniversary date.
I’ve put together a list of the most romantic things to do in Cape Town, so you can leave the kids at home and enjoy the best anniversary you’ve ever had!
Dinner at Black Sheep
If you’re looking for an intimate but laid-back anniversary night, go for dinner at Black Sheep. The restaurant makes use of fresh, organic and local ingredients, and the menu changes every night!
The wine is fantastic, and the wholesome food is always amazing, with interesting options you know the chefs enjoyed creating.
Black Sheep is on Kloof Street, so if you decide you’re not quite ready to head home after your meal, you don’t have to. Stroll down Kloof Street and get ice cream at Unframed, or more cocktails at one of the many bars and restaurants on both Kloof and Long Street. It’s the best area to find many fun things to do in Cape Town at night.
Jazz at The Piano Bar
With live music and an innovative menu, The Piano Bar is a beautiful place to spend your anniversary. Enjoy jazz and piano with talented performers, and delicious African and continental cuisine.
The restaurant is trendy and attractive, with a great view of the Waterfront and the city. It’s a great place to listen to some of Cape Town’s best jazz musicians, and to find up-and-coming artists.
Share a platter and a couple of cocktails, and enjoy one of the most fun things to do in Cape Town for couples. You’re guaranteed a soulful, intimate night with your loved one.
Take a Sunset Cruise
One of the most romantic places in Cape Town is out on the water! Enjoy incredible views of the city and the iconic Table Mountain, while you drink bubbly on a sunset cruise Cape Town. You can also find one that includes dinner!
You’ll see seals frolicking in the water, and perhaps even dolphins and whales, depending on the time of year (whale season is June – November). Catamaran and yacht cruises depart from V&A Waterfront, so you can add a dinner date at one of the waterfront’s luxury restaurants.
It’s a beautiful way to see the city from a new angle, and the sunset is incredible over the water, with golden clouds streaking over Table Mountain.
Wine Tasting at De Grendel
Just 20 minutes from Cape Town, De Grendel is one of the most beautiful wine farms in the country. And their wines are phenomenal! You’ll enjoy views over the vineyards, with Table Mountain in the distance, while you sip at six premium wines.
You can also order a charcuterie board to compliment your wines. Alternatively, you can do a tasting which includes a tour of the wine cellar, and learn more about the wine-making process!
It’s a lovely daytime date which takes you out of the city without going too far. Take in the beauty of our country and city, and get just a little day drunk! We suggest you then take the farm tour, or uber to De Grendel and back.
Take a Lindt Chocolate Making Class
We find that taking short classes and doing unusual activities together is one of the best ways to spend a date with your partner. Of course, a Lindt chocolate making class was the best, most decadent option we could think of! It’s a lovely stand-alone date activity, but it’s also the perfect way to start out an anniversary day, if you want to do something special and make a whole day of it.
The Lindt chocolate studio offers truffle, cake, and macaron making classes, so if you’ve ever wanted to (or wanted your partner to) learn any of these baking skills, this is the perfect opportunity.
Theatrical Dining at Stardust
One of the absolute best date night ideas, Cape Town, is dinner at Stardust! At this theatrical restaurant, your waiters double as performers, and you can enjoy dinner and a show of a most unusual kind.
The food is delicious and the music is brilliant and fun. It’s a fully interactive experience, making for a great night out. The restaurant has a warm and lovely atmosphere and some very talented waitstaff! With snug tables where you can lean in and laugh with your partner, it’s a lovely place to spend your anniversary evening.
Weekend Market at Oranjezicht
If you enjoy day dates, there are many market day ideas and options in Cape Town! Our favorite is the Oranjezicht Farm Market. You can stroll through the stalls, tasting gourmet food creations and buying fresh, organic produce.
You can also find some really beautiful crafts here, and buy each other perfect anniversary gifts, right on the spot! The atmosphere is lovely and comfortable, and everyone is always friendly. You can even bring your dog! It’s a perfectly leisurely date destination.
Cable Car up Table Mountain
Another one of the best anniversary activities for couples in Cape Town is a trip up Table Mountain! Whether you’re coming to the city especially to celebrate your anniversary, or pass the mountain every day on your way to work, Table Mountain never disappoints.
Catch a cable car up to the top, where you’ll enjoy brilliant views over the city, and the area’s unique biosphere. You can also hike up Table Mountain if you’re both feeling strong! It is a reasonably difficult hike, but you can take plenty of breaks to photograph or appreciate your gorgeous surroundings.
The hike is not as difficult as other hikes near Cape Town, and is always well worth it! At the top, you can have dinner at the Table Mountain café, or bring a picnic with all your favorite finger foods to share.
Dinner and Music at Pigalle Restaurant
This beautiful old fashioned restaurant is one of the best in South Africa. Enjoy live music and impeccable service, elevating the night beyond an ordinary date. It’s a great place to celebrate, and you can even dance after dinner.
The food is incredible, with a Portuguese flair. The live music includes jazz, swing and salsa – perfect to share a few dances to. The decor is luxurious, and everything is set up to make your night perfect!
